Was going to write a decent post, but due to sleep-dep and bieng unable to keep a thought straight in my head for more than 5 minutes, it's going to be short.

Got my first exam for the semester tomorrow morning. Maths. What fun. Shouldn't be too bad, and I'm pretty sure there is no chance of me failing, even if the exam is worth well over 50% of the total mark for the subject. Oh well. Another week and I can forget about exams entirely. Just think it's funny that my first exam is warragul's</span> and my housemate's last exam...

Having serious problems sleeping lately (Yes, actually worse than my usual sleep problems). For instance, last night I was actually in bed and asleep before midnight (OK, just before midnight...), but for some stupid reason I wake up at four frigging AM and cannot get back to sleep. That is a lot better than three nights ago, where I just couldn't sleep, and ended up staying up all night, and most of the next day, before finally crashing at about 5pm. At least I got lots of sleep then. (Woke up at about 11pm, back in bed by 12, then asleep till 6). It's just frustrating to have absolutely no control over my sleep cycle. It probably doesn't help that my mind is going paranoid, and I keep just thinking about a certain situation. Only way I'm going to stop that is to talk to the person in question. Of course, we'd both need the time to do that before that happens... I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing, but trying to convince myself that has been basically impossible. Understanding the paranoid mindset far too well lately.

Anyway. that almost sums up my life for the past few weeks. Study, roleplaying (online and off), trying to sleep, and once or twice just trying to get away from the house...

How boring.

I just thought I'd tell you how much of a happy little camper I am right now.
After checking my bank balance this morning, and finding that my tax return has actually made it all the way through the beurocracy to end up there (I found myself about 2k richer...), I went to the bank, drew out several hundred dollars (which the ATM gave me in twenties... there was a wad of cash in my wallet about half an inch thick...), and walked into the computer store on campus. Bieng the impulsive soul that I am, I walked out of the store with a 200 gig harddisk, and a portable USB case for it.
So as I'm typing this, I'm yoinking all of my housemate pheline's AMVs onto my new, portable, harddisk. Next is all the anime stored on various computers in the house....
The next time someone (other than me) holds an anime screening, I should be able to bring most of my entire collection along...

Took a while to get the stuff working, and I had to go to the computer store just around the corner to get an IDE card with USB 2.0 sockets, but everything is working now...

I've got new toys to play with.

You know, sometimes I absolutely love the wah modern technology works. How much of an effort saver it is, the way it can be so entertaining, and it's sheer convenience...
And then there's days like today, where it just doesn't seem to work... It's enough to turn you Luddite.
Don't mind my bitching, I'm just vaguely annoyed at the internet for dropping me out of a site I was doing work on (for my online roleplaying game), when the site (apparently) crashed. It's highly annoying to get halfway through something, and then have to quit. I'm going to be running around for who knows how long with what I wanted to post stuck in my head...
I think it's the reliability of computers, as demonstrated above, that led me to doing my Computer science pre-pracs (where I have to write code, and occasionally even de-bug) on paper.
Ok. I've vented now...

It's halfway through the uni holidays and I haven't even looked at my maths assignment, let alone my 2000 word Classical Mythologies essay. Holidays are so relaxing ;> .... I guess I should get off my butt and do some research for it. Tomorrow.

Oh well. Time to check the other site...

I have actually been passing most of my subjects, only failing the ones I really want to pass...

Well. I guess it's about time I updated this thing (and my friends list.... wheeeee!)

A fair bit has happened since my last post. Not surprising, since it was almost 3 months ago......

I'll stick to the interesting things, like Christmas and My 2 weeks holiday (I thought holidays was when you were meant to get rest?)

I spent the first half week of my holiday at my parents place. It mainly involved lounging around and doing as little as possible. I drove back to Melbourne on Christmas day (unfortunately before my nephews got to my parents....) and spent Christmas night comforting a pooooooooooor Lohhhhhhhhhhhnleeeeeeey putty tat. (psycho_gryphon is gonna hurt me for that comment....) Boxing day was spent partly with warragul in Warragul, before we finally tried to find a cinema that still had tickets for Lord of the Rings the Return of the King (LOTR:ROTK, {pronounce Loh-tr-Rot-eK} for short}. Yay Fountain Gate. (no review, most of you would have seen it by now...)
Came back home (eventually) to finish cleaning house (oh. yay.) and threw a New Years party. Good party, not many people, but I think that probably made it a better party than it would have been if it was larger.... (there's something thats starting to get on my nerves about large, loud groups of people lately. Maybe it's because I don't like shouting in order to have a conversation?)
Spent New Years day flaking.
Went shopping with warragul the next day. I bought anime... Surprised?

Had to go back to work. Damn. Re-entered my usual boring existence ther that monday. They wouldn't have missed me if I didnt turn up. If only I knew beforehand....

Not much else happened except for my housemate pheline's pre End of the World (of Darkness) party on Tuesday. Yes, the end of the world probably is our fault, but none of us have watched Zardoz yet.....

Have been staring at my computer screen all day because this morning I thought it would be a good idea to try to work out where I'm up to on a certain webcomic.....

Life seems a little mundane lately.
Or maybe it's because I haven't seen much of warragul over the exam period.

Oh, while I remember it... A call to all my players (most of you are on livejournal already...) My next game "Animated D&D" 3rd ed is scheduled to start on thursday.... First session wil most likely be Character gen and me listening to further suggestions on how to twist the AD&D system to my perverted needs, but it is possible that we will begin play if everyone creates characters reasonably quickly, andd I get the story organized a little better.... I give it a 50/50 chance of us actually playing.....

If anyone has any interesting ideas, please tell me. I am still open to suggestions....

And now to go play games, and create worlds.... Me? God complex? NEVER!

Computers. A fun way to give you headaches...

The next time I decide to clean my computer out and re-install the OS, will someone kindly belt me around the head a few times until I come to my senses?

I decided to clean out my hard drives and get my PC working under one OS (instead of the three it was using) several weeks ago. A week and a half ago we formatted my 2Gb "put OS here" partition, and I shuffeled files around so I could hold what I wanted on my 18Gb "junk and other non-essential stuff" partition. My housemate pheline then proceeded to install windows on the 2Gb partition.
After finding that he doesn't have a Win2000 install disk, but does have an upgrade to win2000 disk, we proceeded to install win98, and then immediately upgrade it....
A day later, and several hardware glitches later (and me noticing that my Northbridge fan doesn't work), my computer was operating under win2000 and I have a nice, clean, empty D: drive. Pheline even managed to get my 80Gb drive working with my system (it was very reluctant to co-operate)!
So I started to install all the software I wanted on my PC.....

This was when I found out exactly how small 2Gb is.....

With Pheline just left to go to his parent's place for half a week, I beg the help of my other housemate, yassim. He actually had hidden in his room a win2000 Pro install disk. Pity the product key wasn't stored with it.... First step was to shuffle my "keep stuff" to the 80Gb HD, and then re-partition my 20Gb HD to a single 20Gb drive. Easy. Then on with the install.
First, the PC cracked it that my CD-rom's aren't normal.... for some reason it didn't like using a DVD-rom or CD burner with the drivers windows install uses... Then it started to forget that I actually have a graphics card.
After much belting of keyboard and anoyance, the upgrade continued. Yassim went to bed (it was about 12.30 this morning, our brains were beginning to turn into pumpkins...) and I continued on the ever repeating re-start cycle that is windows install. The core of the OS installed ok.... It then could not find the files on the disk to install most of the other near-essentials that a PC needs, like the networking protocols (among others). So after lots of keyhitting to tell it to "forget it" (I couldn't get it to read the files at all...), I went to bed.

So I get up this morning.... My computer will load windows, but doesn't have the stuff for networking, or Internet, or lord knows what else....

I decide to get experimental.

I use the Win2000Pro disk that was used to install yesterday to "upgrade my system to Win2000Pro". (The disk had options of fresh install, or upgrade a different win OS to 2000Pro). Funny thing is, it went straight into the installer and started churning away.... And I got to watch windows installer for a couple more hours.
Well, end result is, I actually have a fully operational PC running Win2000Pro. Although it has a tendency to forget I have a graphics card when I re-start my Computer (a bug that we need to work on, later).

And I am possibly the first person to ever upgrade Win2000Pro to Win2000Pro.....

And now to install some games, and remind myself why I went to all the trouble in the first place...

Have fun! And if anyone ever says "I'm re-installing windows", take my advice, and run away screaming.

Ahhh.... currently got the house all to myself. It's so nice and quiet here. No housemates, no visitors. I'd almost forgotten what its like! Pity it won't last a little longer.... Think I've been needing just a little time away from everyone lately (We seem to get visitors on a nightly basis here. It's good, but can get a little much at times...)

Anyway. Off to play evil overlord again (DK2).. Almost finished the game, which means soon I'll be able to put it aside, and do something actually worthwhile again.

'Bout time I updated this thing....

Went to Manifest (Melbourne ANIme FESTival) last weekend. It was a blast! Got to run around drooling over lots of goodies.... Got up to date on Kenshin (Eight more disks), and bought a few other oddments....
They also had an auction there. Watching, first; a bidding war between warragul and Rosa over Sailormoon fridge-magnets, and then; a guy bidding on a Limited Edition model of a veri-tech fighter by just leaving his hand up (the auctioneers were just alternating between pointing at this guy, and the other bidder, every half second and yelling out the new price... "... 95! 96! 97! 98! ... "). Some people even scare me by the way they can spend money.... Also got to watch a few AMV's (Anime Music Videos). The best one, in my opinion, bieng a clip using footage from The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, and Smashmouth's Allstar. The song just totally suited the character.....
I actually ended up bieng a last minute volunteer. Ended up helping run the cloakroom for about half the event... Silly me, can't just let other people do all the work....

Other thing of note. Last weekend was the first time I have ever seen my girlfriend (warragul) wearing a dress. *grin* That alone made the weekend worth it.

Anyway. Off to be evil before bed. Yep, guess who just got Dungeon Keeper 2 running on their PC?

Have observed recently how much easier it is to put up with things (ie. work) when you have decided on a semi-definite endpint for your involvement with said thing (end of the year... :> ) Still think half the workplace are idiots, tho... Unfortunate that.

Well, it's been a while since I did a good, proper post. So here goes...

What I've been up to lately...
Starting from last Friday: Went shopping for birthday pressies for warragul's birthday on Saturday. Found a nice, shiny multizone DVD player for a good price. Decided to get it when ozwiccagal suggested I could make it a group present after watching me humming and harring. Slept in the afternoon.
Saturday: Got off work early. Had bath. Slept. Drove to warragul's place in the afternoon before going to a meeting to try to resurrect Bryn-a-mor as an SCA group. Went Back to Warragul's place and gave her a big shiny present. Loved her reaction (she said cool about five times in two minutes, and had a big grin on her face). Loved her sister's reaction more (Jaw dropped and she just stared at it from about six inches away). Helped decorate Warragul's cake, and helped set up her shiny new toy, and then went to lazerzone with her, which ran all the way to...
Sunday: Lasertag was fun, once the staff had cleared out the previous party. I think I'm about the only person who didn't end up with overly sore legs from it. Went back to Warragul's place and crashed for a few hours. Brought her back to Melbourne for tea and to watch Terminator 3 (Cool movie. Go watch it...). Crashed at home around 1am or so. Listened to crazy neighbor shouting/chanting semi-legible english half the night (he sounded like an asian guy listening to a Learn english tape, and repeating everything on it... just a little too loud, at 4am for @#$%^'s sake).
Monday: Cleaned the house a little. Went shopping with Warragul after she finished uni for the day. We went to Living Energy in the Chadstone shopping centre and spent the next half hour or so drooling over various crystals. (Must not buy more, must not buy more, must not buy more.....) Slept after Warragul got on the train to go home. Went to work (boring)
Tuesday: Slept most of the day, think I've almost caught up on sleep. Yay!
And finally....
Today: Wow, big update.... Sleeping today. Warragul's going to come over tonight, so I'm looking foward to then (even though I've seen a lot of her over the past few days....). Just have to wait and see if I wake up before she gets here, or if she gets to use one of her evil ideas of how to wake me....

I'm starting to seriously think about leaving my job to go back to uni next year (I have no job satisfaction, and one of my co-workers is predicting redundancies soon). If I do, this time round I'll only study subjects I'm interested in, instead of aiming for a certain job.... Could be fun. Anyone got any opinions/advice on this? I think it just comes down to doing what I want Vs affording what I want. Oh well, can't have it all, can we?

Anyway... Better go to bed. If I go now, I should get eight hours sleep before my girlfriend gets here....

Good start to the day today... As you can see, I'm home way early from work. Today was dead quiet there (unlike yesterday, where I could not keep up with everything. And a huge thanks to management for understaffing us when every machine was running...), and there was no problem with me leaving early to get some sleep. Should help lots in staying awake all night tonight. YAY!!!!

Well, I'm off to have a bath before bed. Gonna be so nice. The bathroom is already looking like a sauna. All steamy.... (Keep your mind out of the gutter, Lofwyr ;> )

And then I can dream up more little surprises for later today.....

It's safe to come out now...
I was going to launch into a huge work rant (trust me, they deserved it, to the point where my supervisor agreed with me that if it happens again, maybe we should just all go home...), but the mood for it has left me. Maybe I'll rant tonight, if I wake up early enough... Get me in the right mood for work.

Apart from that... I think I'm just waiting around, and wonddering exactly where in this weekend the slot for Rik getting eight hours sleep is. I'll survive. It should be a fun weekend.

Ah. Who needs sleep, anyway. Birthday parties and having fun are more important than sleep.

Gotta go! Got some shopping to do. Can't have the Birthday Girl knowing exactly what she's getting, can we?

This whole livejournal thing is starting to remind me of a big online chatroom. I've been floating around my friends list posting comments on their comments on my comments on..... you get the idea.

It's a little slower than chatting, but has the definite advantage that it's real easy to follow the conversation thread back to the beginning.
